AMERICAN STEEL is a visual response to the present moment, reexamining the past to illuminate our contemporary reality. Shown through the form of a book using found color photography from 1942, a time mythologized as America’s “greatest,” this project reframes history through a modern lens, revealing the complexities, contradictions, and overlooked truths of the time. Through the lens of the present, these images take on an unsettling familiarity, revealing the illusions of progress and cycles that refuse to break. History does not rest; It endures, echoes, and persists. AMERICAN STEEL is a fractured reflection of our current time, revealing where we’ve been and the unsettling path we are on.
